High Standard Riding Academy offers riding instruction to all ages and skill levels.  Emphasis is put on proper posture and body position to maximize effective communication with the horse.  Students attain skills that will prove valuable for a lifetime of horsemanship.  In addition to riding instruction, students are taught a variety of horse-related information, such as grooming, handling, tack identification and care.  Special workshops are available for advanced instruction in these areas, as well as showmanship and etiquette, feeds and nutrition, breeding, health and diseases and trailering.

We ask that all students dress appropriately for their lesson out of respect to the sport.  Helmets with an ASTM rating and traditional color, breeches and boots must be worn in all mounted lessons.  A polo or other fitted shirt neatly tucked in with a belt is also requested.  Jackets in cold weather are permissible.  For safety, jewelry and loose fitting clothing are not allowed.

Students in our highly structured program excell in and out of the show ring.  Beginner riders start on a lungeline with one-on-one instruction.  These first few lessons build the foundation for an accomplished rider.  With this instruction, they learn balance and correct position, effective communication and confidence.  Once the basic skills are mastered, students ride independently during their classes.

Students ride in classes according to their skill level.  No more than four students ride together in a lesson.  Students are given the opportunity to watch other riders in this setting and learn by example as well as direct instruction.  Private lessons are available to any student seeking extra instruction or personal attention.

Our schooling horses are well seasoned, and take care of our students well.  Many students take lessons on the same horses they enter the show ring with for the first time.  Often sale horses will be made available for students to ride to diversify their riding experience.  While our horses are safe and build confidence for our beginner riders, they are also able to challenge our advanced riders and take them to the level they wish to ride at.

Lessons may be purchased individually or in a package at a discount.  Monthly tuition is available for students who ride two or more times per week.  Contact us for current rates and season specials.

"No hour spent on a horse is a waste of time"

Horse training is available year-round.  From finishing show animals to starting youngstock, our goal is to create a quality mount that is uncomplicated and willing to work.  Horses are never rushed through training or pushed beyond their ability.  Our methods are kind and work with natural horse behavior to increase the efficacy of our communication.  All horses are welcome in to our program as equals, each having the potential to be an excellent companion.  We are available for groundwork, starting under saddle, reconditioning older horses, and retraining horse to English disciplines.

With every horse, our goals are the same:
~ Obedience to the aids
~ Suppleness and relaxation
~ Straightness
~ Shifting the balance to the rear
~ Collection and forward impulsion

We welcome visitors to view our training techniques.... the proof is in the result !!!
